The management team

Chris Moyses MRCP, FPPM, DM - Non-Executive Chairman. Chris obtained his BA at Oxford and his MB/BChir at Cambridge. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1983 and obtained his DM at Oxford three years later, becoming an FFPM in 1999. Chris worked for Searle and ICI before joining Amylin as Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs. As Chief Medical Officer and Development Director of Oxford GlycoSciences plc (OGS), he had first hand involvement in raising £170 million in 2000. while on the Board. On leaving OGS, Chris was a Non-Executive Director of KetoCytonyx Inc., R&D Director of Pharmagene plc, then Chief Medical Officer of Argenta Discovery and, latterly, Chief Executive Officer of NeuroDiscovery Limited. Currently, Chris is also a non-executive director of Ardana plc and a director of Miroxon Limited in addition to his role with Senexis, which he joined in 2004.

J Mark Treherne BSc, MPhil, PhD, MIoD - Chief Executive. Mark obtained his PhD in receptor neuropharmacology from Cambridge University with funding from Merck. He then went on to complete a post-doc on diabetes, before holding a Senior Faculty position at the Biozentrum in Basel. Mark now has 25 year's experience in the discovery of novel treatments for diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. Mark was formerly at Pfizer in the UK, where he was responsible for research into neurodegenerative diseases. On leaving Pfizer in 1997, Mark set up Cambridge Drug Discovery as Chief Executive, which was sold to BioFocus in 2001 for £28 million. Mark has now been involved in raising over £90 million for various biotechnology companies and joined Senexis in 2002.

David Scopes, BSc, MSc, PhD - Chief Scientific Officer. David obtained his BSc, MSc and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Manchester.  This was followed by periods of postdoctoral research at Syntex Corporation in Palo Alto and at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. David joined Glaxo in 1976 and became a Research Manager in the UK, focussing on central nervous system disorders, before running a department of chemists as Head of Medicinal Chemistry at GlaxoWellcome in France. David joined Oxford GlycoSciences in 1996 as Director of Chemistry, later becoming Vice-President of Drug Discovery and joined Senexis in 2004.

David Paxton, FCCA - Management Accountant. David Paxton is a Certified Accountant, having qualified in 1966. He has been self-employed for 12 years working as a part-time Management Accountant for a variety of small to medium-sized companies. David previously gained wide experience in commerce where he was the Financial Director of a small division of a PLC based in Coventry. He has also worked in private practice with firms of Solicitors, Surveyors, Estate Agents and Chartered Accountants, including Pannell Kerr Forster in Birmingham and Worcester where he was partnership secretary. David has recently focused on working with a number of early-stage Life Science Companies and joined Senexis in 2003.
